WFL Global: Morgantown Scouting Report

Tight End Prospect Analysis

Jeff "Captain Cranial" Duffy

Background

  • Hometown: Providence, Rhode Island
  • College: Purdue University (4 years)
  • Height: 6'6"
  • Weight: 265
  • Career Highlight: Led Purdue to surprising Pop-Tarts Bowl appearance
  • Notable: Required custom helmet in high school due to exceptional head size

Scouting Analysis Physical prototype for the modern tight end position, Duffy brings a complete skill set reminiscent of Larry Brothers. His exceptional yards after catch ability combined with superior blocking technique makes him a three-down player who never needs to leave the field. He was team captain at Purdue, where he emerged as their most impactful player during their unexpected bowl run, practically carrying the team on his back and willing them to wins in some cases.

What stands out most is his versatility – equally comfortable laying down a key block or breaking tackles in the open field. His football IQ and experience in a major conference program are evident in his refined technique and game awareness. The custom helmet story from his high school days has already become something of a legend among scouts.

Graham "Haymaker" Hicks

Background

  • Hometown: Charleston, West Virginia
  • Education: Homeschooled
  • Experience: One year high school football (JR)
  • Height: 6'7"
  • Weight: 240 lbs
  • Notable: Developed catching ability and strength working on the family farm

Scouting Analysis A pure natural athlete with unconventional development, Hicks represents the raw potential that scouts dream of discovering. His hand strength and catching ability, developed through years of farm work, translate surprisingly well to the football field. Despite limited formal football experience, his natural receiving ability and athleticism are undeniable. Hicks played one year of high school ball when his family basically told him it was time to meet people. He liked it fine and he performed very well but in the end the farm it was mattered most to him so he walked away from the field of play.

What Hicks lacks in traditional football background, he makes up for with pure athletic gifts and a unique skill set. His catching radius and soft hands, honed by years of handling hay bales, show up consistently in drills. He is also known for his precision, being known on the farm as the best midwife when delivering mother cow's babies. How that applies to football I'll let you be the judge. While he'll need development in formal football techniques, his natural abilities make him an intriguing developmental prospect.

Morgantown Face-Off

The contrast between these prospects couldn't be starker – Duffy, the invited Big Ten standout with the custom helmet, versus Hicks, the walk-up farm boy who stumbled into the tryout. Yet their performance in drills showed remarkable parity, with each matching the other step for step. Duffy's polished technique and Hicks's raw athleticism created an unexpected rivalry and spectacle for observers. Big Ten Weight Room vs Farm Strong. Film Room vs Watching Monday Night Football. Pop Tarts vs Cow Birth.

Their competitive chemistry and mutual respect were evident throughout the session, pushing each other to better performances. While Duffy arrived with credentials and Hicks by chance, both left having made strong impressions on scouts and possibly forged the beginning of either a fierce rivalry or a strong professional bond.

Scout's Bottom Line

Duffy projects as a 1st rounder and a "Pro Ready" prospect with proven production at a high level. His combination of blocking and receiving skills makes him a safe bet for immediate contribution. Hicks represents a high-upside gamble – someone who could develop into a special player with proper coaching and patience. Both showed at Morgantown that they belong in the conversation as serious professional prospects, albeit arriving there by very different paths.
