Owner Spotlight: Mac McDaniel - Dayton Aviators

Flying in from the Heartland to our Owner Spotlight is a man know as Mac.

Q: Give some of the background of who you are and why your history with football/sim sports will make you best owner in the WFL?

Hey my name is Heath McDaniel Jr. I go by Mac. I’m 26 years old and I’ve been consistently in some sort of football sim league since 2016 as a Coach, GM, or Owner in the SFL, IFL or WFA. I think what makes me a top owner in the league is how much work I put into making my team the best they can be. Tons and tons of hours running sims and testing out player builds and playbooks. I get addicted to it. 

Q: Why did you bring your WFL franchise to this market?

I wanted to bring a Franchise Dayton because I’ve lived 15 minutes from Dayton my entire life and my family has been season ticket holders for the UD Flyers basketball team for my entire life and The flyers consistently been ranked some of the top fans in college sports. 

Q: What was the inspiration for your team branding?

The inspiration for the name came from the founders of Aviation “The Wright Brothers” who are from Dayton Ohio. 

Q: Going into the draft, what kind of team are you trying to build?

Going into the draft we obviously want to bring in the most talent we can but finding players who are active and actually want to play for Dayton. Culture is more important than talent to me all day. I’m a cowboys fan I’ve seen of have lots of talent over the years and look where that’s gotten us. 

Q: What do you look for when evaluating QB prospects?

Usually I like a bigger QB who is a field general and a good leader. 

Q: Do you build a team based on your scheme or do you get the best players and build a scheme around them?

Usually when drafting I go off team fit more than overall talent but it just depends what kind of situation we are in at the time. 

Q: What is the most important position to you (other than QB) and why

I think every position can be the most important it just depends what kinda team you are trying to build but I think you could argue for most positions. 

Q: And for a bit of fun- Who is your favorite musical artist of all time?

For my favorite musical artist of all time. It goes David Gilmour and Eric Clapton and everybody else is below that.
